Onsite Tours

The JPL Public Services Office offers a limited number of onsite, in-person tours, free of charge, for groups and individuals on an advance reservation basis. Visitor parking is also available free of charge. All tours commonly include a multimedia presentation on JPL entitled "Journey to the Planets and Beyond," which provides an overview of the Laboratory's activities and accomplishments. Guests may also visit the von Karman Visitor Center, the Space Flight Operations Facility, and the Spacecraft Assembly Facility. Please see the below descriptions for additional information. Tours are booked one month at a time, and must be booked a minimum of three weeks in advance. Please note that we do not conduct tours on weekends or holidays.

Tour Type Group Size Tour Description
Public Group Tour Reservations must be 20 to 80 individuals. An onsite, in-person tour for organizations and groups of 20-80 individuals. On lab dining facilities / designated eating areas are not available for tour groups. There are local parks / restaurants in the immediate area. The tour lasts between 2-2.5 hours. The walking distance for the tour is approximately 0.8 miles with multiple flights of stairs. A finalized roster of attendees will need to be submitted online 3 weeks prior to the date of your tour. Any guest not on the finalized roster will not be allowed entry.
Educational Group Tour Reservations must be 20 to 80 individuals. An onsite, in-person tour designed for schools and educational groups of 20-80 individuals. We recommend 3rd grade and older for comprehension of information provided. On lab dining facilities / designated eating areas are not available for tour groups. There are local parks / restaurants in the immediate area. The tour lasts between 2-2.5 hours. The walking distance for the tour is approximately 0.8 miles with multiple flights of stairs. Visitor Day Tour Reservations for groups of 1-10 individuals An onsite, in-person tour for individuals and families of 10 people or fewer, all of whom will be on the tour together. The tour lasts between 2-2.5 hours, with a walking distance for the tour is approximately 0.8 miles with multiple flights of stairs. A finalized roster of attendees will need to be submitted online 3 weeks prior to the date of your tour. Any guest not on the finalized roster will not be allowed entry to the facility
Guided Virtual Tour Experiences

The JPL Public Services Office offers a limited number of virtual tour experiences, free of charge. The virtual tour experiences are led online by JPL tour guides. Please see the below descriptions for additional information. Virtual Tour Experiences are booked one month at a time. Please note that we do not conduct virtual tour experiences on weekends or holidays.

Virtual Public Group Tour Reservations must be 20 to 50 individuals. A virtual tour experience for organizations and groups of 20-50 individuals. This reservation is for a 30 to 60-minute virtual visit from a JPL tour guide. You will be required to provide the necessary link to your virtual platform for the experience. Once your reservation is confirmed, you will be contacted by our office to discuss the details of your virtual tour experience.
Please note: Public Group virtual tour experiences are booked for a block of time to allow for flexibility; once you have a reservation, the JPL Public Services Office will be in contact to determine what 30-60 minutes within your time block will work best for your group.

Virtual Visitor Day Tour Reservations for groups of 1-10 individuals. Individuals and groups of up to 10 participants may book a Virtual Visitor Day Tour. These individuals/small groups will be placed together in one Zoom room for the virtual tour experience. The virtual tour experience will consist of a 60-minute virtual visit with JPL tour guides, who will guide you through the JPL virtual tour, answer questions, and provide additional information. JPL will provide the Zoom link for the virtual tour experience.

Note: All Onsite Tours and Virtual Tour Experiences are conducted in English.


JPL requires that all U.S. citizens, 18 years of age or older, present official, government-issued photo identification (driver's license or passport) before being allowed entry. All non-U.S. Citizens 18 years of age or older must present a passport or resident visa (green card) before being allowed entry. Individuals without proper identification will not be admitted to the Laboratory. Please be advised that tours involve a considerable amount of walking and stair climbing. Wheelchair access can be accommodated with advance notice; however, wheelchairs cannot be provided. Please dress for the weather, as the tour will proceed rain or shine! Cameras are permitted on the facility.
